Questions, answered.

The things people actually ask before booking in. If yours isn’t here, just pop it in the enquiry form.

Getting started

Before you book.

Do I need a referral to see you?

No, you’re welcome to book in directly. If you’d like to claim Medicare rebates, your GP can set up a Mental Health Care Plan, but it’s not required to start.

What happens in the first session?

Mostly we just talk. We’ll get to know what’s bringing you in and what you’d like to be different, and you’ll get a feel for how we work. There’s nothing to prepare and no pressure to have it figured out.

How do I know if you’re the right fit for me?

Honestly, you find out by talking. The first session is the test drive. If we’re not the right fit, we’ll say so and point you toward someone who is.

I’ve been to therapy before and didn’t love it. How is this different?

You’re in good company, plenty of our clients arrive with a story like that. Our approach is plain language, real conversation, and practical skills explained so they make sense. No clipboard energy, no woo.

Sessions & fees

The practical stuff.

How long is each session and what does it cost?

Sessions run for 50 minutes and cost $250, whether we meet online or in person. Medicare rebates are available with a Mental Health Care Plan.

How do Medicare rebates work?

Your GP sets up a Mental Health Care Plan, which lets you claim a rebate on a set number of sessions each calendar year. You pay the session fee, then claim the rebate back through Medicare. See the fees page for the step-by-step.

Can I claim through private health?

If your extras cover includes psychology, yes, though you can’t claim Medicare and private health for the same session. Check your level of cover with your fund.

What’s the cancellation policy?

Life happens. Just give at least 24 hours’ notice where you can, so the spot can go to someone else who needs it.

Telehealth

Online sessions.

Is telehealth as good as in person?

For most people, yes. Skipping the commute and the waiting room makes it easier to show up and keep showing up, and the research shows telehealth works just as well as being in the room. If you’d rather sit in the same space, in-person sessions are available in Brisbane.

What do I need for a telehealth session?

A phone, tablet or laptop with a camera, a reasonable internet connection, and somewhere you can talk freely for 50 minutes. Your parked car absolutely counts.

Can I switch between online and in person?

Any time. Plenty of clients do a mix, in person when it suits, online when life gets busy.

Privacy & scope

The fine print.

Is what I share confidential?

Yes. What you share stays between us, with the standard legal exceptions (risk of serious harm, court subpoena), which we’ll explain clearly before we start.

Are you LGBTQIA+ affirming?

Yes, always. You’ll be met as exactly who you are, no explaining yourself required.

Do you do assessments, reports or NDIS work?

No. We don’t offer cognitive or diagnostic assessments, court or child-safety reports, and we’re not an NDIS-registered provider. If that’s what you need, I’m happy to point you in the right direction.

Still have a question?

Pop it in the enquiry form, or just call. Asking a question doesn’t commit you to anything.
